Parent's Night Out - Thanks Robin

Cyrus has been enjoying Child Watch at the YMCA for some time now. He happily goes in while either Mama or daddy go for a workout. Some of Cyrus's favorite things about Child Watch are: Buzz Light Year toy, trucks, Trucks and more TRUCKS, Thomas the Train set, and Robin. Robin is one of the nursery workers. She is really sweet with Cyrus and you can tell that he really likes her. If you tell him you are taking him to the gym he says
"bobin, play" which means he is going to play with Robin.
When we leave the gym he offers Robin a hug and kiss all on his own, we don't have to ask him he just does it. This is how I know he really likes her.
Robin was working Parent's Night Out this past Friday night. Ryan and I were thankful because honestly we needed a night out, and sort of feel guilty for spending lots of money on date night. Parent's Night Out only cost us $13.00 and it goes from 6:00-9:30. I felt a lot more comfortable bringing him to the Y an hour and a half before his usual bed time knowing that someone he really liked would be taking care of him. Not to mention his two buddies Kiley Jo and Zack were there to play as well.

Cyrus and Robin when we dropped him off

It took about a minute for him to run off and play

End of the night, Cyrus would not let Robin put him in jammies

good night hugs from Kiley Jo and Zack

Kiley Jo is 3, and Zack is 2 they are siblings

The three of them see each other about 2x a week at Child Watch
While Cyrus played at the YMCA Ryan and I went to Issacs and then to Scott & Ellie's. We had a really great time just talking about life and stuff. You know the stuff you don't get to chat about all to often when you are keeping up with a two year old.

Good Daddy's Build Stuff

Before church this morning Ryan, Cyrus and I picked up a surprise for Cyrus. We have been spending a lot of time outside lately and it just seemed like something was missing. And of course something was missing. We decided that our yard really needed a play house. We've noticed how much Cyrus loves them, and thought it was a great tool for imaginary play. Since this particular house was on sale this week, we thought we could go ahead and splurge because honestly for being an only child the kid really isn't spoiled enough.
After church Cyrus took his usual 2.5 hour nap. And Ryan got busy putting together the "Neat & Tidy Cottage". I helped, sort of, not really...I am not very handy with putting things together.
As soon as Cyrus woke up from his nap, I put him in his swim trunks - because yes the pool is up and nothing makes Cyrus happier than splashing in his pool and playing with the hose.
I mentioned that his new house was outside. Cyrus was very excited about the house.

Pretending at the sink

Calling Naomi, no really that is what he said

Mama can Naomi come play?

What do you mean she is napping?

Wow there is a door bell

And it works

Oooooh Mail!
I know that we aren't supposed to buy him big stuff when it is not his birthday or Christmas or something like that, but he has been doing so well with peeing on the potty lately, that I just want to reward him a lot. So this is a going pee-pee on the potty present. Yay Cyrus.

Happy Birthday Naomi

Last weekend we had the pleasure of celebrating Naomi's birthday with her family. We had a great time over at her grandparents house (Doug & Jenny).

Cyrus and Naomi had a great time running around the house playing chase. I really enjoy watching them play, and  am amazed at how strong their affections for one another are. When we arrived Naomi was so excited to see her best friend, and Cyrus was equally as excited. They wasted no time at all, but quickly grabbed toys and started running around like crazy monkeys.
Aunt Christy, and uncle Matt bought Naomi a weeble playhouse - which entertained the two for a very long time

Cyrus was wearing new clothes so his shirt was off during dinner

My best friend Sophie, her hubby Nathan, and Naomi

We really adore them

Can you get any cuter than this?

Well of course she can

Sophie is holding the outfit Cyrus bought Naomi - totally frilly and girlie
We arrived at Doug and Jenny's at 3:45. The kids played for a very long time, then we opened gifts. Cyrus was very good during present time and sat right next to mommy. I was a little shocked at how well behaved he was. He enjoyed watching Naomi open her gifts, but he especially liked when she would come and show him what she received. These two really love to share with each other.
For dinner we had hamburgers, hotdogs, broccoli, and home made mac & cheese. Both Cyrus and Naomi ate well. Of course they wanted to get a lot more playing in, so we let them. Finally at around 7:00 I got Cyrus packed up to head home. Oh and while we were there he told me he had to use the potty, and he was very successful at it!
Happy Birthday Naomi, we love you little girl.

Cyrus's Art Work

We  have been getting a lot of use out of our tub crayons. I wanted to share a few of his masterpieces...and honestly they are really impressive, even if unintentional
Upper left portion of the drawing is the Umass Minute Man with elf ears
The next one is harder to see...I don't really know how to use my camera all that well. So trying to focus on crayon on a beige background was really difficult. You may have to squint, but I promise in person no squinting is necessary...

Naked Lady
In the above picture you can't see her legs to well. But I think her breasts, and bottom are clear as day. I swear in person you can make out the form of a lady perfectly, well I should say naked lady sans head. And yes Cyrus drew both of these himself. He also likes to draw houses, but they look nothing like houses. I only know its a house b/c he tells me so.
Looks like we have a little Van Gogh on our hands.

Lounging Around

Did I mention that Cyrus loves his Pottery Barn Kids arm chair. It is one of his favorite birthday presents (oh and yes thank you cards are on the way). He loves it so much that it is already stained and covered in God knows what. We have washed it several times to no avail. Oh well we can always buy another cover down the road.

He loves to sit in his chair after dinner and watch a movie while he drinks his milk. He also loves to climb on it in ways that it is not meant to handle. Just the other night he flipped it over and banged his head really hard on the coffee table. Since then, he has learned that the green chair is for sitting our bottoms on.

Love of Bugs

Discovering a "new" bug

Gypsy Moth - YUCK
What little boy wouldn't love a fuzzy little caterpillar? I however, hate them. When I was little I thought the furry little critters were fascinating. Until I broke out in a rash after playing with them. Apparently these little furry creatures, are not so much furry as they are "spiney" the hairs are in fact little spines that are capable of transmitting toxins. I am allergic to the little buggers, where as my best friend growing up never had one rash from them. Cyrus loves to watch the gypsy moths climb around the house...I think this year is going to be a bad year for the trees b/c it looks like the moths have picked SWVA as there infection area. Regardless, Cyrus is excited to have a new bug to examine (from a far - he doesn't pick them up, and hopefully won't).
After watching the bug he decided he wanted to be a bug for a little while.

And of course he wanted Daddy to be a bug too!

To Infinity & Beyond

On May 5th we took a family trip to one of our local parks. Ryan and I are really enjoying watching Cyrus discover new things while playing. It is amazing to see his imagination come to life. One of his favorite things to do is to be Buzz Light Year, from Disney's Toy Story. There is only one thing needed for Cyrus to become Buzz...

As soon as we get to the park, he runs to the swings yelling "Buzz, Buzz". Then he jumps on up and pretends that he is flying. Being that Buzz Light Year can't fly either (he falls with style), I think this is sort of funny.

There is seriously nothing cuter than watching my sweet boy play. I feel blessed every day that God allows me to enjoy these special moments.
Handsome Daddy watching his budding performer...
The church bells were ringing out old church hymns, which I love. Apparently so does Cyrus, but he hasn't quite got the message that you don't do a "booty drop" to hymns. If you have ever seen Cyrus dance you know exactly what he is doing here. It is very cute, and slightly disturbing (we have no idea where he learned his dance moves from). This specific dance move requires a slight squat with hands on quads, then he shakes his bottom like a tail. When he is really getting into it he drops his hands and head to the ground. The boy can dance, what can I say.
After we were done dancing we played a game of chase. Let's face it the whole point of going to the park is to get out all of his energy and laying on the swings just doesn't cut it. Here is a picture of Cyrus chasing after me down the slide. What I love about this picture is his facial expression. He is biting gently down on his lower lip because he is focusing. This in itself isn't anything to love...what I love about it is that this is exactly what I do when I am focused or frustrated. I am pretty sure I inherited it from my mother, and Cyrus inherited it from me. Awwww I love seeing me in him.
Another thing to note is that Cyrus is now able to traverse the playground equipment all by himself. I remember how this specific section of playground has always made me nervous. Cyrus would want to try and climb up and down, but would need help. Now Cyrus is big enough to climb up and down with out any assistance from Ryan or myself. *sniffle, sniffle* my baby is growing up.

Monkey Business

what kind of mayhem does this sweet boy bring about?
I'm not sure why all the "bad" things happen on my watch, but they do. This week I was getting ready for work, and Cyrus was hanging out with me, like he always does. Since the upstairs is gated off from the rest of the house and the only area of danger to him is my bathroom I didn't worry when he left my room. I figured he was just going down the hall to his room to get a book or a toy.
What I had forgotten was that just the night before Cyrus had become curious about things that don't go in the potty, going into the potty. He actually threw his binky in the potty, and tried to flush it. Luckily I had ninja like reflexes because nobody wants a clogged toilet.
As I was getting dressed I heard Cyrus yelling "blue monkey, buh-bye, buh-bye blue monkey" then I heard a flush. Cyrus came running to get me and was saying "oh no, blue monkey, blue monkey". I suddenly realized what had happened. I asked Cyrus to show me where the blue monkey was and he lead me straight to the potty and said "in there".
This mama thought "On no, I've done it again. I need to watch him all the time, Ryan is so going to use this against me". See my dear husband is a wonderful stay-at-home-dad. I mean the only havoc Cyrus has caused is in the garden, but that has an easy fix. Okay I think Cyrus dropped a glass once, but Ryan was in the room with him and it was a total duh moment for him. I think Ryan watches him more closely than SAHM's watch their kids. I think this is mostly because by nature women are multi-taskers. Our mind is constantly thinking about multiple things and hey if the kids are occupied we might as well be productive with other things. Ryan is only productive during nap time and after Cyrus goes to sleep. On my watch I am easily distracted by my to do list, and Cyrus is often getting into something he shouldn't be (nothing life threatening, but he makes a mess usually).
Anyhow, back to the blue monkey. It only took me a moment to look around Cyrus's bathroom to realize that in fact that blue monkey bubble wand was missing. I flushed the toilet and noticed that the water was draining a bit slower, something was indeed stuck.

Cyrus loved the blue monkey. Every time we walk by his toilet he says "blue monkey stuck", awww how cute is that? We have determined that blue is his favorite color, and green is his second favorite color. I loved the blue monkey bubble wand because it worked best for blowing bubbles. The blue monkey was holding a circle and circles make for better bubble making.
We made a family trip to Lowes to buy a snake so Ryan can attempt to solve our monkey business. I am really hoping that we do not have to hire someone for this job. But if we do the money is coming out of Cyrus's piggy bank.
