Hunting for Eggs

I took today off from work, with it being Good Friday and all. I decided to do something really fun with Cyrus, an Easter Egg Hunt! I invited a few of the girls from Jesus Gang (that is the name for the group of women I go to bible study with - I have known them since I moved down to VA). And then I got busy (or I should say Ryan got busy) prepping for having many small children over on a Friday morning. Ryan was awesome. He went out and got bunny ears for the kids, candy, trinkets, eggs and cookies to bake while the kids hunted.
We ended up only having three children, Cyrus, Naomi, and Delaney, but it was still chaotic and tons of fun. I am hoping to make this a tradition. Hopefully next year there will be a few more children in bunny ears.
Cyrus liked being in the middle

Naomi was the only one who would wear her ears for any amount of time. She was also the only one willing to sit down and have her picture taken. She is such an obedient child, she melts my heart.  Both Delaney (my friend Katie's daughter), and Cyrus were ready to dash into the other room and start hunting for eggs.
The hunt started in the family room to find the easy eggs

Can you see the egg Cyrus is scoping out

Naomi was a little slower than Delaney and Cyrus, but Cyrus wanted to share his eggs with her

Delaney was a professional hunter she found the most eggs

The Easter Bunny came to visit

Okay its just spaz, but how adorable is this?

We love our geriatric bunny. He's 12 almost 13 and 6 years past his expectancy

Cyrus needed to hold his bunny, the feeling wasn't mutual

After the egg hunt we had lunch, but it was really early and the kids actually weren't that hungry after all the candy they ate. The hunt started at 10, and they were done by 11. So next year I can have the hunt at 11, and then eat lunch. Hopefully next year we will have better weather. Today was rainy so the kids could only hunt in the family room and the deck area. I think they still had a fun. They especially loved when I brought Spaz D. Bunny down from his room. I can't say that Spaz enjoyed all the attention, but I am sure it was good for him. Cyrus did grab him by the ears one too many times, but he just loves very physically I guess that is the Butler in him (Right Auntie Rae?).
Ryan, Thank you so much for making this happen. I am pretty sure you are the one who suggested it AND you did all the prep work. You were so thoughtful of the children and made this a really fun day. Thanks for being amazing at the job God has given you. Cyrus and I love you and appreciate all that you do for us.

It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time, It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time

I typically walk around with a song in my head, and just about every situation has the perfect song, don't you think? If my life were a musical the score would be pretty cool. Right now I have the song "It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time" because we have big news...

Cyrus is NOT allergic to peanut butter! Thank God. Cyrus had his 2 year check up on Wednesday April 13th, and I brought peanut butter to test him while we were with the doctor. I thought this would be a good idea since I have a sister who is severely allergic to any sort of nut. In my opinion it is always best to be near a doctor, if you are going to go into analyylaxis. Doctor Craft was not surprised that Cyrus came into the office with peanut butter in hand, I guess many moms follow this safety precaution, especially in they have first hand experience with a person who has the allergy.
All morning I told Cyrus about my favorite snack food. By the time we got to the appointment he seemed excited to try the peanut butter in the jar. As you can see from the pictures above he was very interested in trying to open the jar.
However, once it was time to eat, my sweet boy refused the spoon. I was so disappointed. Luckily, knowing my son as well as I do, I came prepared with a Reese Peanut Butter Big Cup as well.
Here he is teary eyed b/c I was pressuring him to try PB off the spoon

Enjoy his Reese PB Cup - yum my favorite treat
Overall Cyrus has become a big fan of peanut butter, just not in his sandwiches. Cyrus has had a few bites of my peanut butter cups, and my chocolate peanut butter shake from Scott & Ellies - I haven't had one in almost three years because of Cyrus...once we were done breast feeding, I really wanted one, but if I had one Cyrus would want some. So now I am in the clear for all the peanut butter shakes I want - YIPPY. I'll update the blog about his doctors visit later on (at some point). At the moment I need to go prepare for our First Annual Good Friday Easter Hunt.

The Birthday Bash

Cyrus has a favorite song. It has been his favorite since he could sit in his exersaucer - when you hit the cow three times in a row it played this song. His favorite song is Old McDonald had a farm. When it came time to pick his party theme I decided that building a party around his favorite song would be simple and fun.

Ryan and I used Little Critters Traveling Petting Zoo for entertainment. Coy Shupe runs the show and he is very professional and a pleasure to work with. Coy brought one rabbit, two bunnies, three ducks, two alpacas, one miniature pony, one miniature donkey, and two goats (which were Cyrus's favorite). We had about 10 children and their parents at the party. I was unable to take a ton of pictures, but here are a few of the ones I do have.

This is one of my favorite pictures captured. How sweet is Cohen?

Cyrus really liked the donkey's ears.

I love this little boys sweet little face
And no birthday would be complete with out a birthday kiss
Cyrus enjoyed his birthday and loved having all his friends over to celebrate with him. I can't believe that I didn't get any pictures of the decorations (besides the cake). Uncle Keith and I hung streamers and got balloons - the family room looked really cute if I do say so myself. Thank you so much to Aunti Mimi and her creative genius...I could never have built a more perfect cake. And thank you to both you and Keith for driving down from Boston to celebrate Cyrus's second birthday.

Cyrus is TWO!

I would have liked to post sooner but life is just so busy right now. No need to share the details, you would just be bored. Cyrus had a fantastic birthday celebration, if I do say so myself. On Thursday morning we woke up and snuggled in bed, which is becoming routine these days. Cyrus loves to climb into bed with me and watch a little morning TV. I have to admit that I love it too. There is just something so sweet about snuggling with your baby. I'm so happy that he has developed this new skill, he has always been one to wake up and go go go...it is nice to have a few lazy mornings with him.
I also had the joy of taking him to Thursday morning worship at our old church. Sadly, Cyrus was able to enjoy the music and the dancing, but only lasted 5-7 minutes of teaching time. Cyrus and I left early, and headed home BECAUSE...Auntie Amy was at home, and we were very excited to see her.
Mimi being "gangsta" with jammie bottoms
The above pictures are for my dear friend Brigita - she sent Cyrus and awesome birthday package including Toy Story jammies and a Woody t-shirt.
Cyrus had a really good time playing with Mimi and uncle Keith.
We spent most of the day playing in the back yard - Cyrus loves to be outside. After dinner Cyrus opened his presents (or at least a few of them).

Cyrus loves his new chair from Nana, Auntie Rae, Uncle Matt, Liv and Tess. But his favorite present was the special present Mama picked out. I bought him a construction themed plate, fork, spoon and pusher...They are a lot of fun, but they distract little man from eating.
Over all Cyrus's birthday was a lot of fun. I still am in shock that he is two. I have several posts in the works...Cyrus's birthday party, and his 2 year old check up. But it is Saturday night, Ryan is away in Richmond with Aaron and Keegan, and I am battling a sinus infection - so I must go to bed now. I promise to write more tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to the Boy Who Holds My Heart

Dear Cyrus,

Happy birthday little one. I cannot believe that you are two! It feels like just yesterday I was rubbing my pregnant belly wondering what you would look like, and who you would become. You have been such a gift and blessing to me, you have brightened up the darkest days, and warmed the coldest. I love every little thing about you, and I wouldn't change a thing about you.
Cyrus on your birthday I get sad thinking about all the time that has passed and all the stages that are behind us, but I am also happy thinking towards the future and knowing that we have the rest of our lives to enjoy together - well until you become a teenager and don't want to be around me anymore.
This year you have changed so much. It is amazing to watch you grow and develop. This year you learned to run, feed yourself, communicate effectively with signs and language, you learned to pretend (which is probably the coolest thing I have ever witnessed - not the pretending but the development of the skill). You have shown empathy and concern, you have learned to comfort others when they are sad. You have become gentle with your dog, and shown great affection for those in your life. You are discovering the world around you every day and I am thankful I get to take part in it.
Cyrus I pray for you constantly. I know that God has his hands on you. I pray that as this new year begins that you will have an obedient spirit, that you will be drawn to the lord, and that your heart will be turned towards him. I pray that your daddy and I will be good examples, and show you the love of Christ daily. I pray that you will listen well and that you will have a teachable spirit.
You are my precious one, my only son a blessing from the Lord. I love you more than I can describe, I hope that your birthday is wonderful. Here is to a life of memories....

Almost two

I can not believe that tomorrow my son will be two. My life is so different than what I thought it would be at this moment in time. Sometimes I look back on the plans I made, and get sad to see that there is a piece missing, but then I look at Cyrus and think we are right where we belong. I have been blessed with a healthy son that warms my heart every day. God thank you for blessing us, for loving us every step of the way, and for sanctifying us as a family. Your way is always better than our best laid plans thank you for the family you have given me.
I am really excited about tomorrow. My sister Amy and her fiance Keith will be arriving to our house around 8 am (please pray for safe travels for them as they drive down from Boston tonight). I'm not sure what we will do with the day, but I know we will celebrate Cyrus and the day he was born into this world. I am thinking of trying tacos for dinner with him, b/c c'mon who doesn't love tacos. I'm thinking we may take a little trip to the zoo or maybe go to the safari park...but most likely we will just hang around the house, play in the back yard and get ready for his big birthday party on Saturday.
Wow my baby is almost two...sad that may be the last time I type/say that.
