Cherry Picking, Afton VA May 26th

Cyrus and I went Cherry Picking with my friend Kathy and her twins Miles & Maya.  We left Salem at 9am so that Cyrus would take his morning nap.   We arrived at Spring Valley Orchids at about 11.  Cyrus slept almost the entire way.

The views were amazing! The weather was perfect and the company was great.

Cyrus was very good at picking cherries.  I was surprised that he even understood to put them in our bag. Yep my boy is a genius, lol.

He also liked to show off the cherries he picked.  He would pick and then proudly show the cherry to me, and then plop it into our bag.

He even showed Mama how to pick the cherries.

and Mama showed him how to eat the cherries.  As you can see in this picture, he was wanting his own cherry to eat. I just love the look on his face.

Picking cherries and picking your nose go hand in hand, at least in Cyrus's world...just kidding my child does not know how to pick his nose, this is just a coincidence. After cherry picking we went drove down to Batesville and had lunch.  Kathy and I found the cutest place to eat.  We had a ton of the fun, but the children were really ready to nap.  So we ate lunch quickly and were back on the road by 3.  Cyrus slept almost the entire drive home.  The Hurley family has been enjoying cherries for the past few days.  I am wishing I had picked more and talked and played less.

Hangin' on Harborwood

Ashely & Cohen invited Cyrus & I over for lunch and play time today.  We had such a great time.  When we first arrived Cohen was still taking his morning nap...and Cyrus helped himself to all of Cohen's great toys.  He was especially fascinated by Cohen's power-wheels go kart. I think Ryan and I will have to hunt for one.
Once Cohen woke up we ate lunch.  It was yummy - hot dogs, mac& cheese, banana, gold fish, and seasame street cookies.  The boys loved lunch and I think the mommies did too (Ashely and I enjoyed Chili on our dogs). Thanks for such a lovely lunch and great fellowship Ashely. After the lunch the boys played upstairs.

Cohen has mad skills.  He can climb up onto the bed, and down the bed.
The boys were looking for Duke outside, they had a great time playing on the window seat.
So cute!
Boys being boys...I love how they play together!  It really makes me want another baby, or at least a Cohen!

So it is really hard to get a really good picture of them playing.  Hopefully some day I will master it and get a beautiful picture.  Ha ha ha yes the boys are missing shorts and a shirt...Cohen never got dressed after nap and Cyrus doesn't wear his good shirts while eating lunch...

My Favorite Peanut was Always Snoopy but...

these days I am becoming very fond of
 Linus & his blanket!
On the days when Cyrus gets very sleep, he picks up his monkey blankie and drags it around.  He has not learned that he can just lie down any where and fall asleep, but I'm hoping that he will figure it out soon.  This is seriously one of my favorite Cyrus habits. I love you, my sweet boy!

On Guard

Cyrus is learning the fine art of playing with sticks.

Park, Park and more Park

The end of our week was filled with fun Mama/Cyrus activities.  On Thursday we went to morning worship at the church.  Sophie & Naomi met us to hear a bible story and sing/dance praise songs.  Cyrus was very distracted during story time and wanted to walk around and check out all the kids.  I decided that it would be best if we went down to the fellowship hall as to not cause a distraction to Jill as she told this weeks story.
Cyrus did better once Gretchen started singing, but he was still distracted by the stage and the radio's on the stage.  After worship I went to work, but made sure to get home in time for Ryan to meet the Tri club for a ride.  I made Cyrus his dinner and then decided that he needed to burn some energy.  We decided it would be fun to go to the park and play.  I thought it would be nice to go to our church's playground - it is smaller, and enclosed with a fence and usually there is no one there after the childcare center closes.
Cyrus played "hoops" with this blue ball

Trying to climb up the baby slide
The big winner was this ball...he dragged it around forever!
I am pretty sure he was going to try and steal it.  I had to tell him we don't steal from the church.
After he was good and tired we went home and he went to bed.
But then Cyrus woke up really early (6:30 on Friday) so we had breakfast and went to play at Longwood before it got either too hot or rainy.  We played for about an hour.  It was nice we had the entire park to ourselves.  We also explored the walking path and Cyrus really liked the tractor's that were mowing the grass.  We went home at 9:50 so that he wouldn't miss his 10 o'clock nap.  Ha ha ha...he slept on the car ride home and thought that was enough of a nap.  I couldn't get him to sleep until 11:30, he finally fell asleep laying on my chest watching "Word World".  We napped for two hours, it was very nice. I love snuggling with my little man.
Guess what we did Friday night...yep we went on a triple date to Longwood Park.  Sophie, Nathan, and Naomi met us there.  The kids had a great time playing.  Though Cyrus was a little fresh with Naomi and didn't want her playing with the steering wheel. This is the first time that we have gone as a family to the park.
Naomi and Cyrus enjoyed the swings.  Cyrus was enjoying some attention from Sophie.

This is my favorite pic of Naomi!

Riding an ATV with daddy.
Then this morning while daddy was out running I thought we would go back to WSBC's playground before the rain rolled in.  Cyrus and I played tag and even went down the big kid slide.  He also practiced going down the baby slide and played a little more basketball.  Over all I would say we have had a very busy few days.

Uh-OH!

As the weeks have progressed, and Cyrus is becoming more comfortable with the spoken language our home has become filled with a small but meaningful phrase...
"UHHHH-OHHHH"

I remember back to several months ago when my friend Val shared with  me how her daughter would say the small phrase all the time, and I thought to myself, "Oh I can't wait for that".  I have waited in anticipation for months.  At first he said it in a way that you could tell he was unsure of himself, and either Mamma or Daddy would repeat it back to him.

But now he says is loud and clear for everyone to hear. "Uh-Oh I dropped my binky", "Uh-Oh I dropped my cup", "Uh-Oh I dropped my bed time book", "Uh-Oh I dropped my toy behind the changing table", "Uh-Oh I dropped my food for Issy".  We have tried to tell him that when you do something on purpose it is not appropriate to use the phrase "Uh-Oh", that we use this small but wonderful phrase when we do something by accident.  So far Cyrus just thinks it is a fun phrase to say.  Honestly, I think it is because he realizes he is saying something and Mamma and Daddy both understand what he is communicating.  Watching language skills develop is really amazing.  I'm not sure if the listening skills are coming along that well, but I know they must be since listening and speaking go hand-in-hand.

I must say that I love this stage of life with Cyrus!

Way Back Wednesday

This week last year...

This week with Cyrus

It was a hard week to update the blog, because most of the week I was flat on my back or my side or my stomach what ever position I could find that did not send excruciating waves of pain through my body.  Yep I hurt tweaked my back again on Wednesday and was pretty much out of commission the rest of the week through today.  I am hoping to be back up and out of bed tomorrow.
Okay so fun things about this past week.

Monday was Pasta with Vegetable night! This is one of Cyrus's favorite meals, I am pretty sure it is because he gets to be super messy and then have tubby time!

Cyrus was watching a movie during dinner and demonstrating his MAD baby signing skills.  He wanted more bread.
Wednesday we saw Naomi and Sophie at the park.  Sophie and I were planning to run, but I hurt my back going down the slide with Cyrus before the run ever started - no pictures of this fun play date sorry.
Thursday we went to the Chiropractor and saw Charlotte and Naomi - it was a very busy day at the office.  Mama also found out that she does not have a disc issue but that her Facet and Si joints are the culprit of this weeks pain.
Friday was the most exciting day for Cyrus.  He had his friend Cohen over to play.  Ashely and I were able to spend time getting to know each other better and watch our baby boys enjoy each other.  Once the boys warmed up to each other they had a great time.
"That's mine Cohen!"
No, seriously Cyrus was sqwaking at Cohen.  I guess Cyrus has not learned to share yet.
Playing nice
This is one of my favorites!  Cohen looks very pleased with himself, I could just eat him with a spoon.
The boys had a picnic in the family room, where they enjoyed some left over KFC and cows milk.  Cohen showed Cyrus that cows milk is yummy.  Cyrus also watched Cohen drink all by himself...and was intrigued to try it out, but the skill hasn't stuck yet.
By the end of the play date the boys were playing so well with each other, I am sure they will grow up to be good friends.
Saturday was very busy.  I spent the morning in bed while Ryan took care of Cyrus so that my back would be ready for Naomi's 1st birthday party.  Cyrus and I had a great time celebrating with Naomi and family.
Cyrus had a good time showing Naomi how to use the Touch and Teach Turtle he picked out for her, and he was really excited that she received the leap frog learning table that he has...he showed her how to use that too! It was great sharing in this special day.
Ryan and I actually had sitters! Lauren and Britney came over to watch our man while Ryan and I went Downtown for dinner.  Ryan and I walked around and looked at different restaurants menus before deciding on Meze.  We had a wonderful time chatting and just enjoying the night.  The food was great, but we finished eating really early.  Soon we discovered there is not much to do for a date night around here unless you go to the movies.  We went to Barnes and Noble instead and then went to Scott & Ellie's for Ice Cream.  We were home before 9:30 and I got to spend some girl time with my friends which was really nice - I haven't hung out with these women in forever!
Sunday lazy day around the house.  We missed church because my back wouldn't handle sitting for two hours, that was sad.  However, we had a really good day watching Cyrus play with his toys and I even got to snuggle him for a bit.
Hopefully I will be more consistent with this coming weeks blog posts.  Have a great week.

13 Months

I'm still a little in shock that my baby is 13 months, I guess it will be like this for the rest of my life.  The past month has been filled with lots of new adventures.  Toddler's are so much fun, I can not imagine what one does with an itsy bitsy baby anymore :) I know this post is a little bit late, but better late than never...

Here are a few facts about Cyrus at 13 months old
-He says a few words...and sometimes I think he actually understands them. Dada, Mama, and Uh-Oh (when he drops something)

-He runs, and prefers going fast to moving slow
-Nurses 3 times during the day (we just dropped hid mid-morning nursing last week)
-He wears a size four sneker
-Has been waking up a little bit earlier each day 6:30ish - boo
-Will put himself to sleep at night if I am unable to rock him (but I still prefer to rock him)
-He is still sleeping through the night
-Goes to bed between 7:30 and 8
-still takes his morning nap but we are back to about 9:30 and it last an hour and a half on most days, afternoon nap is at 3 (usually) and is about two hours
-let's Isabelle out in the morning...I say let's take Issy out and he runs to the slider and trys to open the door for her
-Will walk outside the front storm door if you do not properly latch it, then he proceeds to walk to the drive way...he hasn't done this when I'm not watching him but I'm sure he would if he could
-Can identify Mama, Daddy, Issy, monkey, frog, puppy, ball (that we have picked up on)
-Finally will drink cold cows milk, not a ton, but he will drink a few ounces through out the day
-When he wants a drink he points to his sippy cup, or if it is within reach he picks it up and brings it to you.  He still will not drink from it on his own.
-Has had several tantrums, and is still stubborn
-Does not eat enough vegetables, and really only wants peas, carrots and green beans
-Eats 3 meals a day, and has 2 snacks through out the day
-no longer lets us brush his teeth
-Understands "no touch", but thinks it is okay to touch what he is not supposed to touch as long as it is with an object and not his hand.

My Mother's Day

We had a wonderful weekend.  However, a big chunk of it was with out Cyrus :( Ryan and I really needed to go on a date, however, with our budget being so tight we didn't want to go to an evening movie.  So we opted for a matinee with the Renard's and Britney.  The movie of choice was Iron Man 2.  Tracy watched Cyrus and took him to a birthday party, so we had a six hour window of free time.
The movie was good, though I have to admit that I became very sleepy through the middle and rested my eyes for a few minutes here and there.  I was sort of laughing at myself for that, I mean I can't even make it past Cyrus's nap time with out a little rest (but he was off at a party playing it up and not napping at all).  After the movies Ryan and I walked around the mall while I decided what I wanted to eat for Mother's Day.  Yes this was our Mother's Day celebration and our child wasn't with us. In our defense Ryan and I cannot remember the last time we went out on a date with out Cyrus and just the two of us (we've done a few double dates, but no me and Ryan time).  So Saturday was some quality us time.  We went to dinner at Logan's because I desperately wanted a salad.
On Mother's Day we went to Church.  It was exciting for me, because I was going to get my gift from Cyrus.  Thank you to Jill Higginbotham who made these sweet gifts for the Mama's at church.

Precious, I know!

The best pictures Ryan captured...we've got to work on his picture taking skills.

Thank You Mum

Posted by PicasaI should have posted this yesterday, or Saturday night, but I'm not all that put together. Mum would tell me that it is the thought that counts, and since I neglected to pick up a Mother's Day card, this will have to do for now!  I love you Mummy.  I am so thankful that you are my mother, and I am so sorry for all the times I have said hurtful things to you.  I am sorry for thinking that we just couldn't get along because we were too much alike, or for thinking that I wasn't your favorite child :) I know now that I am your favorite youngest child and always will be!  I am thankful that God has given me my own child so that I could understand you just a little bit better.  I understand now how you love me, and how you only want the best for me, and how you will do anything to help me and protect me.  You are a courageous woman and I am thankful that you were strong enough to raise me by yourself.  Thank you for never giving up on your family, and thank you for fighting for us.  Thank you for teaching all of us to have faith like children.  I would not be the woman I am today if it was not for the things you taught me as a child.  You are a wonderful mother and an even better Nana.  Thank you for loving Cyrus as much as you love me, and probably a little bit more than you love me.  I only wish we lived closer so that he could sit on your lap and be rocked weekly! I hope you had a special Mother's day.

Best of Friends

We had a lot of fun this week.  The highlight of the week was our play date at Longwood park with Sophie & Naomi on Thursday.  The last time Cyrus was at this park he was unable to walk around and have fun - so this was a big deal.
Naomi has grown very affectionate towards Cyrus.

Naomi was giving Cyrus little love bites.
Okay Cyrus I'll be nice, lets be friends forever
Just one last nibble, you're so sweet
Cyrus was not a big fan of being man handled by Naomi, I told him to man up
 Cyrus didn't love the swing
But he did like the tunnel
serious biker boy!

I am so glad that Naomi and Cyrus are becoming good friends.  Sophie and I are looking forward to watching their friendship grow over the years.  I feel so fortunate to have Sophie to share these moments with :)
